Hello, I’m Acy Day, a children’s picture book author and illustrator based in a small college town in central Alabama. I write stories and create handmade collage-style illustrations using paper, scissors, glue, and watercolor pencils – with a little digital tidying in Canva. My first book, ‘Sticks and Stars: A Find-and-Count Adventure,’ was created while I was still learning my way around digital illustration.

Before writing books, I worked in the Head Start program. During story time, a child’s delightful “That’s like me!” moment showed me how powerful pictures books can be in helping young readers feel recognized. That moment has stayed with me, and it shapes the way I create stories today.

Most of my inspiration comes from everyday life – my garden, my pets, and tiny things that catch my attention. I use cut-paper collage and simple, familiar scenes that are easy to relate to. I’m still at the beginning of this journey, with many stories swirling around in my head just waiting their turn.
